Identity is considered one of the most fundamental factors in the formation of a political society and one of the most prominent issues in state-building. Libya is currently experiencing major and complex transformations—political, social, and security-related—amid intense developments and crises. Perhaps the most dangerous of these is the loss of identity, where loyalty to the homeland should come first in order to achieve political stability, sustainable development, and civil peace.
Identity represents a vital foundation for the establishment, success, and consolidation of the state among all members of society. This can be achieved by strengthening national and cultural ties, enhancing social cohesion, fostering pride in a shared identity, and preserving the social fabric. Such efforts support the state’s progress and prosperity across scientific, economic, and cultural domains, while reinforcing Libyan identity through local, national, and Islamic belonging.
Amid the multiple crises facing the state, the crisis of identity stands out as a key challenge that has affected—and continues to affect—political stability, threatens social peace, and hinders the rebuilding of the state.
